Special Interest Groups, Events & IT Announcement Lists
Special Interest Groups Upcoming Events
Campus user and special interest groups have a particularly important place within Penn's distributed model for computing services, improving communication and encouraging adoption of standards and best practices across schools and units. These groups provide an opportunity for computing staff on campus with common interests or technology needs to work together and support one another through information sharing and work on campus projects and teams. Presentations by units testing new or emerging technologies, or implementing technology solutions of broad interest at Penn, enable others to leverage the knowledge gained from their experience.
Some groups are discussion lists, which allow email exchanges by their members. Other groups, hold regularly scheduled meetings or events, in addition to their email discussion lists. Meetings provide members with a chance come together in person to examine a related topic. Finally some groups are announcement-only lists, which provide information about campus services and events, but do not allow discussion.
Subscription to any of the groups is possible by clicking on the Join/Subscribe link on the left. |

HIPAA for New (and Experienced) IT Staff
Torie Jones, the Penn Medicine Privacy Officer from the Office of Audit, Compliance and Privacy, will provide an overview of HIPAA and what you need to know as IT staff at the University of Pennsylvania. Torie has worked extensively on HIPAA with Penn Medicine and also with University entities affected by HIPAA. Recently HIPAA requirements – both privacy and security – have been extended to Business Associates via the Health Information Technology Economic Clinical Health Act (HITECH). Faculty and staff at your school or center may be engaged to perform services that would qualify their activities as Business Associate activities which means that you should become informed about HIPAA and HITECH. This is an excellent opportunity to find out more.
