Milestone Marked: All Central Pool Classrooms to Have AV Technology

June 18, 2012 :: Shirley Ross, Information Systems & Computing

Starting this Fall semester, all Central Pool Classrooms will contain an installed AV technology system. To achieve this milestone, ISC’s Classroom Technology Services team is managing projects in 53 classrooms this Summer. Projects range from simple projector replacements to full technology installations. Technology installations in most Central Pool classrooms include an LCD projector, one or two computers, a Blu-ray™ player, and a control system, although some classrooms also contain wireless public address systems, document cameras, overhead projectors, annotation systems, CD/cassette players, phonograph turntables, assistive listening capabilities, and/or lecture recording systems.

Many CTS projects are coordinated with a larger classroom renovation effort in cooperation with the Provost's Classroom Facilities Review Committee, VPUL Facilities, the Registrar's Office, Facilities and Real Estate Services, and the school(s) in whose building the classrooms reside. This Summer, the Classrooms Committee is undertaking the renovation of 19 classrooms in four buildings, many of which will incorporate LED lighting technology. In addition, CTS and the Classrooms Committee are working with the School of Nursing to complete the “Phase Five” renovation of the first floor of Fagin Hall and with the Provost’s Office and the Division of University Life to finalize and implement plans for the renovation of the ARCH.

Overall, CTS oversees, supports, and maintains classroom technology in 198 classrooms in 27 buildings. For more information, visit the CTS web site (https://www.isc-cts.upenn.edu/) or contact Jeff Douthett, Director of CTS, at douthett AT isc.upenn.edu.
