Penn Hosts BICSI Northeast Region Conference

Approximately 160 people from Maine to Washington D.C. attended the BICSI Northeast Region Conference held this Spring on Penn’s campus. (BICSI is the professional association for those working in the information technology systems development and design industry.) Information Systems & Computing hosted the conference, the largest of BICSI’s five U.S. regional conferences.

BICSI develops infrastructure standards for applications and markets, such as education, data centers, healthcare, and electronic safety and security. It provides information, education, and accreditation - from network design to project management - for the more than 23,000 ITS professionals in more than 90 countries who work in telecommunications jobs, such as infrastructure network designers, installers, and technicians. These individuals provide the fundamental infrastructure for telecommunications audio/video, life safety, and building automation systems.

BICSI chose Penn as the conference location because of the campus and facilities and Penn’s history as the developer of the first computer, ENIAC. The conference included educational speakers on a wide range of topics and more than two dozen vendors, including those providing cable, connectivity, test equipment, distributors, raised floor systems (used in data centers and computer rooms), wireless systems, and grounding and bonding.
