Shoah Visual History Archive Will Launch This Spring

January 23, 2012 :: Shirley Ross, Information Systems & Computing

Penn will soon have streaming video capabilities that will house 3000+ Holocaust testimonies, thanks to collaboration among ISC, the Annenberg School, and the Library. The service will be launched for the public during the Spring with the President’s Office coordinating with the Shoah Foundation and the on-campus partners. Steven Spielberg established the Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation in 1994 to gather video testimonies from survivors and other Holocaust witnesses. The archive includes testimonies in 32 languages, representing 56 countries. It is the largest archive of its kind in the world. The Foundation’s mission is to overcome prejudice, intolerance, and bigotry through the educational use of the visual history testimonies.
