100+ Penn IT staff attend exciting IT staff convention
May 10, 2006 :: Shirley Ross, Information Systems & Computing
More than 100 IT staff from across the University participated in an IT
Staff Convention on April 26 sponsored by Information Systems & Computing.
The half-day convention, held in response to staff requests for more opportunities
for Penn’s IT professionals to gather and share best practices, was comprised
of 12 moderated discussions, each with a scribe to capture all of the ideas.
Topics focused on various IT technologies and management issues ranging from
virtualization technology to student support challenges, from hiring and managing
IT staff and managing relationships with vendors to best practices for firewalls
and VPNs to planning business continuity. The 12 discussions were held within
three consecutive hour-long sessions each offering four concurrent topics from
which participants could choose. The sense of continued collaboration among
the University’s IT staff was one of the convention’s most exciting
aspects. For more information, visit www.upenn.edu/computing/provider/convention.html or contact Amy Phillips at amyp@isc.upenn.edu.
