Required Security Measures for Your Computer

The University is requiring the adoption of several security measures
designed to protect computers and data, and prevent the spread
of malicious viruses and worms to Internet users at Penn:
- Installing virus software configured for regular updates (daily
for Windows, weekly for Macintosh).
- Applying security patches to your operating system promptly.
- Assigning a strong administrative password to your computer
(Windows XP & 2000, Macintosh OS X).
- Activating your system’s firewall (Windows XP & Macintosh
OS X) – subject to your Local Support Provider’s
recommendation concerning firewalls.
