The PennERA (Electronic Research Administration) Team is pleased
to announce that SPIN Plus was migrated to an onsite Penn server
on March 8, 2004. SPIN Plus is a comprehensive, web-based
service that provides the most current information on available
funding opportunities (national and international) for research
projects.
For more information on SPIN Plus as well
as an update on the PennERA project, see the March 30, 2004 Almanac
article at
http://www.upenn.edu/almanac/v50/n27/pennera.html.
The implementation of SPIN Plus completes the rollout of Phase
I modules of PennERA, which is a multiyear initiative to develop
streamlined processes and more efficient tools for handling pre-
and post-award administrative tasks related to the sponsored projects
of Penn's academic research community.
In addition to SPIN Plus, Phase I included release of four other
components of the system:
- The Human Subjects Protocol Tracking module, used by the Office
of Regulatory Affairs (ORA) to manage human protocols that are
currently active or under review
- The Lab Animal Protocol Tracking module, used by the Office
of Regulatory Affairs (ORA) to manage animal protocols that are
currently active or under review
- The Proposal Tracking module, used by the Office of Research
Services (ORS) for collecting, tracking, and reporting on application
and award information for proposals
- Human Subjects Adverse Events Reporting System (PennAEs), used
by principal investigators (PIs), clinical coordinators, and
staff in the Office of Regulatory Affairs for tracking, collecting,
and reporting serious adverse events involving human subjects
These components provide a solid foundation for the more extensive
protocol and proposal development modules to come in later phases. For

project web site at http://project.pennera.upenn.edu/.
