STUDENT DEGREE OUTCOME table

(dwngss_ps.st_degree_outcome)

Explanation

Contains one record for each degree or credential received by each student -- or degrees they attempted to receive -- from the University of Pennsylvania. There is a status field indicating their progress towards receiving the degree or credential once they have applied for graduation, for example: sought, pending, awarded. This table contains the catalog year applicable to the student's degree, along with their primary curriculum and primary major in the curriculum. For all of the majors for a graduating student, see ST_DEG_OUTCOME_MAJOR. Corresponding curricular information can be found in ST_DEGREE_PURSUAL (one row per student per curriculum) and ST_DEGREE_TERM (one row per student per curriculum per term).

Source

The warehouse ST_DEGREE_OUTCOME table is refreshed in batch mode from the Operational Data Store (ODS), which gets its data from the Banner database. The ODS source table is UPENN_ODS.SATURN_SHRDGMR with some information coming from SATURN_SORLCURR and SATURN_SGRCHRT. In the online Pennant system, the data about students' curriculum can be found on the SHADEGR form.

Common Uses

  • Identify the graduation stuatus of students who are expecting to graduate in a specified term.
  • Find students who have graduated.

Cautions and notes

  • The ST_DEGREE_OUTCOME table does not contain any information about degrees a student received at any other college or university besides Penn.
  • Students working in curricula that do not result in the granting of a credential will not have the completion of that work recorded in ST_DEGREE_OUTCOME. Such "non-degree" programs can only be found in ST_DEGREE_TERM and ST_DEGREE_PURSUAL, and usually simply end with an exit action of 'E' (end of program).
  • Once a student graduates, if there are no other active curricula for the student, their Student Status will be set to 'IG' (inactive graduated). However, if they graduate from one program and immediately continue on with another, their Student Status remains 'AS' (active student). See ST_TERM.
