Penn divides the academic year into 3 terms or semesters: Fall, Spring, and Summer. Terms are designated by the 4-digit calendar year, followed by a term code. The Spring term code is A, the Summer term code is B, and the Fall term code is C.

Example: 1995C means Fall 1995, 1996A means Spring 1996, 1996B means Summer 1996

Term_Session A sub-division of a term.

Penn's semesters, Fall, Spring, and Summer, can be sub-divided into sessions. The majority of courses are taught for the entire semester. Courses that are taught for only half a semester, or for a special time-frame that does not fit into a standard semester's dates, will have a term session value of 1, 2, or S. For 'S', see the course start and end dates in COURSE_SECTION.

Note that in the Summer term, a term session of 1 indicates Summer 1, term session 2 indicates Summer 2. Summer courses with no term session are 12-weeks long, spanning both summer sessions.

Values:

1=First part of the term
2=Second part of the term
S=Special session, will have specified dates
. =Not a special session, but a full-term course

Timetable_Publication_Date The final update date of the official publication of the Course TimeTable by the Office of the Registrar. Note that Course TimeTable information is available earlier in the term, for advance registration. This is the final date of publication of course timetable updates for a term.
