CEN_COURSE_SECTION_TYPE Table - Data Element Index

Section_Id |
The unique identifier for a specific course section in a term: Characters
1 to 4 contain the subject area code (subject area is the alpha code of
the academic discipline under which the course is offered). Characters
5 to 7 comprise the course number. Characters 8 to 10 comprise the course
section. For example: FREN 130301 is FREN (French, subject area), 130
(course number), 301 (section number).
The components that make up Section_Id (subject area, course Id, and
section Id) are not available in the CEN_COURSE_SECTION Table. See the
COURSE_SECTION Table for these data elements.
Values:
Course numbers indicate course level as follows:
100-399 are undergraduate courses
400-499 are both undergraduate and graduate but mostly undergraduate
500-599 are both undergraduate and graduate but mostly graduate and professional
600-989 are graduate and professional
Section Numbers indicate course activity as follows:
000-auto section create
001-099 are lectures
100-199 are labs
200-299 are recitations
300-399 are seminars
400-499 are cross-listed
500-599 are Grad Engineering Executive Masters Program
600-699 are College of General Studies
700-799 are Wharton Executive MBA
800-999 are reserved

Section_Type |
Indicates whether the course section is associated with, or offered as
part of, a program. The honors codes, G (General Honors) and H (Wharton
Honors) mean that only students in those programs may register for the
course section.

The term, as of the Census Date, that this course section was offered.
Penn divides the academic year into 3 terms: Fall, Spring, and Summer. Terms
are designated by the 4-digit calendar year, followed by a term code. The
Spring term code is A, the Summer term code is B, and the Fall term code
is C. For example: 1995C means Fall 1995; 1996A means Spring 1996; and 1996B
means Summer 1996. |
