COURSE SECTION table

Explanation

Contains the information about a specific course scheduled offering in a term.

The warehouse CRSE_SECTION table is refreshed in batch mode from the Operational Data Store (ODS), which gets its data from the Banner database. The UPENN_ODS source table is SATURN_SSBSECT.

Cautions and notes

• Course sections were not converted from the legacy student system (SRS). You will not find course section data for terms prior to the start of Pennant Student Records (Summer of 2022). For reporting on course sections offered in the Spring of 2022 and all previous terms, see the DWADMIN.COURSE_SECTION table in the legacy warehouse data collection.
• Note also that all legacy course sections will have the old SRS course numbering formats of 3 numbers. To find the equivalent old course number for a course number in Pennant Student Records, see the cross-walk table DWNGSS.XWALK_COURSE_NUMBER.
• To facilitate reporting, some elements from the CRSE_SECT_SCHED_WITH table are also stored in the CRSE_SECTION table.
• Course sections are offered in a Term, and within the term, in a Part-of-Term. Note, however, that a course can have custom start/end dates that override the start/end dates for the Part-of-Term. See CRSE_SECT_MEETING.
