Computing News
NetNews available from any Internet Service Provider
NetNews can be accessed from any Internet Service Provider (ISP) worldwide, including local ISPs such as DCANet and Comcast @Home.
- If you use NewsWatcher on a Macintosh, you need to set authentication preferences so you can access news from an ISP. Refer to the NewsWatcher tip sheet for details.
NewsWatcher users should also keep in mind that switching between Penn modem pools and another ISP's modem pools requires modification of authentication preferences.
- If you're using Netscape Navigator on a Windows 3.x or Windows 95 machine, you do not have to change any preferences to access news from an ISP. You will be prompted for a user name and password when you try to access news, and need to use your PennNet ID and password.
- If you are using any other NetNews software, check with your local support provider if you encounter difficulty accessing news from an ISP.
