LAST_EXTRACT_DATE
Indexed - no
Format - date
May be null? yes |
The date this record for the investigator was extracted from the Research
Services system and loaded into the Warehouse. This information is stored
in the Warehouse in date format. In Business Objects, it is displayed
as specified in the desktop operating system settings. It is recommended
that users specify a date format that includes 4 digits for the year.
(To specify the date format in Windows 95, choose the Regional Settings
of the Control Panel, select the Date tab and specify the Short date style.
In Windows, use the International option of the Control Panel. On the
Macintosh, use the Date & Time Control Panel.) Example: 9/22/1997.

ORA_INVESTIGATOR_NAME
Indexed - no
Format - char (50)
May be null? yes |
The name of the employee who is an investigator for the proposal or award.
The name may be up to 50 characters long, and is stored in uppercase in
the format LNAME, FNAME MI. For example: EDISON, THOMAS A. (Note that
both a comma and a space come between the last name and the first name.)
This field will always have a value, even when SSN is P or S. (That happens
when a name is in the Research Services source files though the investigator
has left Penn and is no longer in the Payroll system.) For awarded accounts
and advance accounts, and for proposals with associated records in the
AWARD table, once the end date for the AWARD record has passed, the ORA_INVESTIGATOR_NAME
is no longer updated. For proposals that do not have associated records
in the AWARD table, once the end date for the proposal has passed, the
ORA_INVESTIGATOR_NAME is no longer updated. See also Name and Professional_Name
in the EMPLOYEE_GENERAL Table.

PENN_ID
Indexed - yes
Format - char (8)
May be null? yes |
The 8-digit identification number assigned to the investigator by the
PENNcard system. For example: 77777777. No two persons have the same PENN_ID.

|
PRIMARY_APPT
Indexed - no
Format - char (6)
May be null? yes |
The job class for the investigator's primary job appointment.
This value matches the University Census Report primary appointment. For
awarded accounts and advance accounts, and for proposals with associated
records in the AWARD table, once the end date for the AWARD record has passed,
PRIMARY_APPT is no longer updated. For proposals that do not have associated
records in the AWARD table, once the end date for the proposal has passed,
PRIMARY_APPT is no longer updated. See also Rank, Primary_Dept, Primary_Org_Code,
and Primary_School_Code in the SPON_PROJ_INVESTIGATOR Table. Example: 216020
(ASST PROFESSOR A).
Values:
A 6-digit job class number
[null] Not found in Payroll files - old record
|
PRIMARY_DEPT
Indexed - no
Format - number (5)
May be null? yes |
The 5-digit code for the department responsible for the primary
job appointment of the investigator. This may be different from the investigator's
home department. The code set comes from the Payroll system. For awarded
accounts and advance accounts, and for proposals with associated records
in the AWARD table, once the end date for the AWARD record has passed, PRIMARY_DEPT
is no longer updated. For proposals that do not have associated records
in the AWARD table, once the end date for the proposal has passed, PRIMARY_DEPT
is no longer updated. Example: 11189 (PS-Neuropsychiatry)
Values:
[null] Not found in Payroll files - old record
Five digits
|
PRIMARY_ORG_CODE
Indexed - yes
Format - char (4)
May be null? yes |
The 4-digit code for the Organization responsible for the
primary job appointment of the investigator. This may be different from
the investigator's home Organization. An Organization belongs to only one
School or Responsibility Center, and its organization code is unique. (The
code set is from the University's General Ledger, and has been in use since
July 1, 1996.) For awarded accounts and advance accounts, and for proposals
with associated records in the AWARD table, once the end date for the AWARD
record has passed, PRIMARY_ORG_CODE is no longer updated. For proposals
that do not have associated records in the AWARD table, once the end date
for the proposal has passed, PRIMARY_ORG_CODE is no longer updated. Example:
4425 (PS-Neuropsychiatry). See also Primary_Dept in the SPON_PROJ_INVESTIGATOR
table.
Values:
See the ORG_CODES Table for values.
|
PRIMARY_SCHOOL_CODE
Indexed - yes
Format - char (2)
May be null? yes |
The 2-digit code for the school or center responsible for
the primary job appointment of the investigator. This may be different from
the investigator's home school or center. The code set is from the University's
General Ledger, and has been in use since July 1, 1996.) For awarded accounts
and advance accounts, and for proposals with associated records in the AWARD
table, once the end date for the AWARD record has passed, PRIMARY_SCHOOL_CODE
is no longer updated. For proposals that do not have associated records
in the AWARD table, once the end date for the proposal has passed, PRIMARY_SCHOOL_CODE
is no longer updated. See also Primary_Org_Code in the SPON_PROJ_INVESTIGATOR
table. Example: 40 (School of Medicine)
Values:
Refer to the CNAC_CODES table for values. The first
2 digits of the CNAC_Code is the school or center code.
|
PROJECT_ID
Indexed - yes
Format - char (5)
May be null? yes |
A 5-digit code identifying the investigator's project. The
PROJECT_ID is used as the first five characters of the PROPOSAL_ID. See
also PROPOSAL_ID in the SPON_PROJ_INVESTIGATOR Table. Example: 54321.
Values:
List of values not available.
|
PROPOSAL_ID
Indexed - yes
Format - char (9)
May be null? no |
The 9-digit code identifying the sponsored project proposal or award
for the investigator. Example: 553209111. The first five digits make up
the project id. (See also PROJECT_ID in the SPON_PROJ_INVESTIGATOR Table.)
The next two digits identify the funds supplement (which may be 00 for
proposals). The last two digits are meaningless for proposals; for awards,
they identify the account sequence number--01 indicates the prime account,
if the award has been split into more than one account, or the only account,
if the award has not been split. Note that for some awards dating from
before November 24, 1997, the last four characters are unreliable. (To
make up an example, 123450003 is actually the record for the prime account
for the first funds supplement--the award id should have been 123450101.)
Also note that in the Research Services transaction processing system
(unlike the Data Warehouse), the last two digits will always be 00 for
all records dating from November 24, 1997 and thereafter.

|
RANK
Indexed - no
Format - char (25)
May be null? yes |
The job title associated with the job class for the primary job appointment
for this investigator. For awarded accounts and advance accounts, and
for proposals with associated records in the AWARD table, once the end
date for the AWARD record has passed, RANK is no longer updated. For proposals
that do not have associated records in the AWARD table, once the end date
for the proposal has passed, RANK is no longer updated. See also Primary_Appt
in the SPON_PROJ_INVESTIGATOR Table. Example: ASST PROFESSOR A (216020)
Values:

|
RESEARCHER_TYPE
Indexed - no
Format - char (1)
May be null? yes
|
A 1-character code indicating whether the investigator is a principal
investigator or a co-principal investigator. Examples: P (Principal Investigator),
C (Co-Principal Investigator). Note: the investigator associated with
an AWARD record may have a RESEARCHER_TYPE of 'P' or 'C', but that does
not mean that the investigator is the principal or co-principal investigator
for the entire project. To find the principal or co-principal investigator
for an awarded project, see the investigator associated with the proposal
for the award.
Values:
P Principal Investigator
C Co-Principal Investigator
|
SSN
Indexed - yes
Format - char (9)
May be null? no
|
The Social Security number of this investigator, when available. A Social
Security number is a unique number assigned to an individual by the federal
Social Security Administration.
It is a numeric field, except when the Social Security number is unknown.
When data is loaded into the warehouse, a non-numeric character is used
if there is not an SSN in the source file. If the Principal Investigator
has a missing SSN a 'P' is stored in the field. If the Co-Principal Investigator
has a missing SSN a 'C' is stored. There may be missing SSN's for those
project investigators for whom no match between the Research Administration
and Payroll files exists, usually records from projects prior to 1994
or when the individual did not have a SSN at the time.
Example: 123456789
Values:
nine-digit number
P Principal Investigator with SSN missing from
payroll source
C Co-Principal Investigator with SSN missing from
payroll source
|
TRACK
Indexed - no
Format - char (3)
May be null? yes |
A two-character code indicating whether the investigator is a Tenure
Track, Clinician Educator, or Research Faculty member, based on the investigator's
primary job appointment. For example: RS (for a Research Faculty member).
For awarded accounts and advance accounts, and for proposals with associated
records in the AWARD table, once the end date for the AWARD record has
passed, TRACK is no longer updated. For proposals that do not have associated
records in the AWARD table, once the end date for the proposal has passed,
TRACK is no longer updated.
Values:
CE Clinician Educators
RS Research Faculty
TN Tenure Track
[null] Not Clinician Educator, Research Faculty or Tenure Track
