A 2-digit code assigned by the ORA (Office of Research Administration)
to designate the purpose of a project. Examples: 01 (Research), 05 (Student
Aid). Note: this is not the same as the BEN Financials FUND_PURPOSE_CODE,
whose decoded values are stored in the PURPOSE_CODES table.
Values:
01 Research
Includes research projects under the direction of
a P.I. with academic rank of Assistant Professor
or higher (or equivalent). Do not include fellowships,
scholarships, RCDAs. Include PHS Program Codes R,
M, P, S. Also include most NSF Programs.
02 Training
Includes projects for new or expanded
University curricula, training courses, teaching
programs, general education support programs.
Include PHS Program Codes A, D, T, E, and G.
03 Community Service
Includes special community projects. Do not
include research or training programs.
04 Facilities and Equipment
Includes programs which are entirely for procurement
of new buildings and structures. Include PHS Program
Codes J, C.
05 Student Aid
Includes projects where principal funding is for student
stipends, tuition and fees. Include all fellowships and
scholarships. Include PHS Program Code F.
06 Research Career Development Awards
Includes only PHS RCDAs, Program Code K.
07 Other
Includes anything not identified in codes 01 to 06.
Code 07 should be used only in unusual circumstances.
