A 6-digit number that identifies the account against which the project expenditures were charged under the financial system in use before July 1, 1996. For budgetary purposes, Penn organized its financial records by Account_Number and Subcode. The first digit of the Account_Number is known as the ledger number. All Sponsored Project account numbers begin with the ledger number five.

The 2-character code identifying the school or center that is responsible for administering the Account_Number and Subcode. FIN_SCHOOL_CODE is stored in the format used to identify schools and centers in the financial system that was used at Penn before July 1, 1996. Note: This is not the same as the school/center code in the present General Ledger accounting structure (in use at Penn since July 1, 1996). Example: 35 (SOCIAL WORK).

(To specify the date format in Windows 95, choose the Regional Settings of the Control Panel, select the Date tab and specify the Short date style. In Windows, use the International option of the Control Panel. On the Macintosh, use the Date & Time Control Panel.) Example: 09/28/1995
