AGENCY Table
Explanation
Lookup table for alphabetic agency codes. Contains the 4-character agency code,
the agency name, and the code for the parent agency. For example, the name that
corresponds to agency code "1043" is "PEACE CORPS." Agency codes that are made
up of numerals are BEN Financials fund sponsor codes. Agency codes that begin
with letters are translations of the 5-character agency codes used before November
24, 1997 for Sponsored Projects data in the Warehouse. Agency codes that begin
with a letter ('X', 'Y', or 'Z') refer only to agencies that sponsored projects
before July 1, 1996 and that are not included in the BEN Financials Fund Sponsor
Codes table because the agencies no longer exist.
Common Uses
- Displaying the full name of the agency instead of the agency code that appears
in one of the related tables. ("Don't show the codes in the report. Show the
English instead.")
- Using the parent agency to report on groups of agencies. ("Show me all the
Department of Defense awards.")
