classification system for staff positions was developed in 1998. Job classes
in the online Payroll system and the Data Warehouse were converted to this
new system over April 8 - 9, 1998. Faculty classes were unaffected by this
conversion. Some classes were reused, however (and only the attributes now
used for those classes are available).

JOB_GRADE

The 3-character code indicating the pay grade for the Job_Class.
Each Job_Grade has a specific salary range assigned to it.
With the Classification
Redesign Project of April 1998 new grades were established to simplify salary
administration. (For Job_Classes that are reused, only the Job_Grade now
assigned to the Job_Class is available.) University exempt (monthly-paid;
not eligible for overtime time) and non-exempt (weekly-paid; eligible for
overtime pay) staff positions are classified within a 12-grade structure,
numbered from 21 to 32 (these are stored in 3-digits, as 021-032 in the
Data Warehouse). A separate Information Technology (IT) salary broadband
structure, represented by the letters A - H, was also developed, and applies
to IT positions at the University.
Examples: FAC (Faculty), 27 (non-exempt grade 27), D (IT band D)

For full-time, permanent jobs, the 4-character code indicating
the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity group for the federal job title
for the job. (Note: The federal job title is not the same as the Job_Title
used at Penn.) The Job_Group is used for federal affirmation action reports.

character of the Job_Group indicates one of the seven major groups:
