PENNERA_PERIOD_STAT_HIST Table
DWADMIN Schema
As of April 28, 2005, this table is no longer
populated in the Data Warehouse.
- Status
is no longer stored at the period ("budget period" or "grant
year") level in PennERA, but is stored for each request and
for each increment. See the PENNERA_REQ_STAT_HIST and PENNERA_INCR_STAT_HIST
tables.
- The status of a period cannot be determined from
its request and increment statuses. For example, a period could have a "Budget
Period" request
that is "Awarded," a "Supplement" request that is " Pending," an
increment that is "Awarded," and an increment in "Advance
Account" status.
- For those
doing longitudinal
studies, DWSP.SPFY_PENNERA_PERIOD_STAT_HIST is available. It
contains only the snapshot of PENNERA_PERIOD_STAT_HIST that was taken for
fiscal year 2004 (SNAPSHOT_FY
= '2004'). See also DWSP.SPFY_PENNERA_PERIOD.PERIOD_STATUS
(populated only in the snapshot that was taken for fiscal
year 2004).
Explanation
Records information on how the status of a budget period (within a funding
cycle (proposal) for a sponsored project) has changed over time. Includes
the proposal's ID (INSTITUTION_NO), the period number, the status, the effective
date of that status,
and information on when and by whom the status data was entered. There is one
PENNERA_PERIOD_STAT_HIST record per proposal per period for each change
in the period's status.
Common Uses
- Reporting on budget periods based on how their status has changed over
time. ("How much time passed between when the period was placed in
Advance Account status and when it became Awarded?")

Cautions
- There are two different unique identifiers for a proposal (funding
cycle): INSTITUTION_NO and PROP_NO. INSTITUTION_NO is the identification
number assigned by the University. PROP_NO is the identification number used
internally by the PennERA system. For a given record, INSTITUTION_NO will not have
the same value as PROP_NO. While either one may be used when joining PennERA
Proposals tables, INSTITUTION_NO is the one recommended for display in reports.
- Records with an INSTITUTION_NO less than or equal to 05017400 were converted
from the Research Services System (RSS, the system used to track proposals
and awards before October 14, 2003). Other records are for proposals created
in PennERA.
- The PENNERA_PERIOD_STAT_HIST table stores information on how the status
of a budget period (within a funding
cycle (proposal) for a sponsored project) has changed over time. The
current status of the budget period is also stored in the PENNERA_PERIOD
table. For
the current
status
for
the proposal
(funding
cycle), see the PENNERA_PROPOSAL
table. For more details on how the proposal's status has changed over time,
use the PENNERA_PROP_STAT_HIST table.
- Note that, while a status date defaults to the system date when the status
was entered, it may be changed by the person entering the data to more correctly
reflect the effective date of the status.
- The Research Services System, or RSS, was used before October 14, 2003
to track information on sponsored projects.
- If there no changes were made to a period's
status history after the period was converted from RSS to PennERA,
the PENNERA_PERIOD_STAT_HIST table has, at most, two records for the
period:
one for when its status
was 'Pending', and one for its last known status per RSS ('Awarded',
'Advance Account', 'Withdrawn', or 'Unfunded').
- Some PENNERA_PERIOD_STAT_HIST records for periods that were
converted from RSS have a null value
for PERIOD_STATUS_DATE. This is usually because the record was entered
via a program, to set the status for an inactive period to 'Withdrawn'
or 'Unfunded'.
