V_SCHOOL table

Explanation

This is a validation table, containing the values for Penn school codes. It also contains the legacy SRS school codes, and both the short and long descriptions of the school codes.

The warehouse V_SCHOOL table is refreshed in batch mode from the Operational Data Store (ODS), which gets its data from the Banner database. The UPENN_ODS source table is SATURN_STVCOLL and UP_ST_UP_S_BANNER_LONG_DESC.

Cautions and notes

• Long descriptions can change, and thus have a start and end date. In the V_SCHOOL table, you will find every iteration of a long description, and you can join to the table based on dates to get the description that pertains to any term in a student or course history record. To get just the most recent long description, use the view V_SCHOOL_V.
• Banner does not have a code for school with its own validation table, so Penn uses the STVCOLL table to store both the 2-character division codes and the 1-character school codes. Note that division codes all start with the school code. Also, in STVCOLL, division codes are associated with a STVCOLL_DICD_CODE code, which is the school code to which the division belongs.
