V_NAME_TYPE table

Explanation

This is a validation table, containing the values and descriptions for the codes that identify course section meeting types.

The warehouse V_NAME_TYPE table is refreshed in batch mode from the Operational Data Store (ODS), which gets its data from the Banner database. The UPENN_ODS source table is GENERAL_GTVNTYP.

Cautions and notes

• The name fields in the STUDENT table do not have a name type. They represent the student's current name that should be used for most reporting at Penn.
• The names in the ST_NAME_OTHER table have a name type.
• Names with type 'LEGL' should only be used when the legal name is explicitly required. The student's Legal Name comes from the SPRIDEN name.
• Names with type 'prev' are a calculated name type found only in the warehouse; they are the student's previous name fields from the SPRIDEN table.
