COURSE SCHEDULE TYPE table

(dwngss_ps.crse_sched_tyep)

Explanation

Contains the schedule types -- sometimes called "activities" -- that can be used when the course is offered. Each course must have at least one schedule type. Each course may have more than one schedule type. Not all schedule types must be used when the course is offered as a section in a term, but no section can be created for a type that is not already defined and in-effect in the base course schedule type table.

Examples of schedule types:
LEC Lecture
REC Recitation
DIS Dissertation
FLD Field Work

Source

The warehouse CRSE_SCHED_TYPE table is refreshed in batch mode from the Operational Data Store (ODS), which gets its data from the Banner database. The UPENN_ODS source table is SATURN_SCRSCHD.

Cautions and notes

  • Schedule types may sound similar to instructional methods, but they are actually two differently functioning parts of a course. The schedule type is assigned credits, and some schedule types are graded. Instructional method is found on the COURSE record and describes how the course is being delivered. See V_SCHED_TYPE and V_INSTRUCT_METHOD.
