HCM_PERSON_RACE_ETHNICITY Table

Explanation
Contains most current available race information for Workers and Affiliates from Workday. The table includes individuals who had Workday records as of July 1, 2019 or thereafter. There may be one or more rows per individual.

Common Uses
Analysis of race/ethnicity information, for internal and external required as well as adhoc reporting.

• The HCM_PERSON_RACE_ETHNICITY table contains records for Workers (employees and contingent workers) and Academic Affiliates managed in Workday. Some individuals may have multiple rows (one per race). Not all individuals will have rows in this table, and the amount of information available will vary based on data maintained by the individual in Workday.
  • Note that the binary Hispanic/Latino indicator is stored in the HCM_PERSON table
• Penn_ID should be used to uniquely identify records in HCM_PERSON_RACE_ETHNICITY, and to join HCM_PERSON_RACE_ETHNICITY to other tables in the Warehouse. Workday ID is an 8 digit field for workers and affiliates unique to Workday.  It is distinct from the Penn ID, which has the same format, but is maintained by Penn Community and is the unique identifier for individuals across Penn’s systems.
• Keep in mind that this is the latest information about an individual with records managed by Workday - the HCM_PERSON_RACE_ETHNICITY table does not keep longitudinal history. Historical snapshots of this information are available in the HCM_PERS_RACE_ETHN_SNAP table, beginning with the JUL-19 period. For historical information about race/ethnicity data prior to the implementation of Workday, refer to the DWADMIN.EMPLOYEE_ETHNICITY and DWIPEDS.RACE_ETHNCITY_SURVEY_FLAT tables.
• You can access an HCM_PERSON_RACE_ETHNICITY row only if you are authorized to view race/ethnicity data in the Warehouse and have access to the individual's Pri_Penn_Cost_Center.
• The HCM_PERSON_RACE_ETHNICITY table can be found in the DWHCM schema.
