Data Element Definition
CHILD_PROGRAM

The 4-character code for the PROGRAM associated with the PARENT_PROGRAM (or rollup group). Amounts for the CHILD_PROGRAM will be included when data is summarized by the PARENT_PROGRAM.

A given PARENT_PROGRAM may be associated with more than one CHILD_PROGRAM, and a given CHILD_PROGRAM may have more than one parent. For example, PROGRAM 1675 (ETHICS) has parents 16XX (MISC OTHER BUSINESS PROGRAMS, INSTRUCTION) and 1XXX (INSTRUCTION PROGRAMS). A PROGRAM is an activity or work process commonly defined across the University. Programs track activity across schools and centers (or across organizations within a school or center).

Examples: MISC OTHER BUSINESS PROGRAMS, INSTRUCTION (16XX); INSTRUCTION PROGRAMS (1XXX)

PARENT_PROGRAM

The 4-character code for the PROGRAM that serves as the parent (or rollup group) for one or more other PROGRAMS, allowing amounts to be summarized at the parent level.

A given PROGRAM may have more than one parent. For example, PROGRAM 1675 (ETHICS) has parents 16XX (MISC OTHER BUSINESS PROGRAMS, INSTRUCTION) and 1XXX (INSTRUCTION PROGRAMS).
