LEAVE Table

(dwadmin.leave)

Explanation

A leave of absence is a temporary or permanent break in a student's studies at the University. A student on leave is on leave from the University as a whole. As a result, the student is listed as on leave for every DEGREE_PURSUAL_ALL_V record, unlike for hiatuses. (See also the HIATUS Table.) There is one record for each leave a student takes.

Common Uses

  • Analyzing the reasons that students give when going on leave status. ("What proportion of students taking leaves are doing so because of the environment at Penn, such as 'Environment, Dislikes' (EN) or 'Stress/Motivational' (ST)?")
  • Looking for patterns in leave taking. ("For what students is their leave shorter than expected, and for what students is it longer?")

Cautions

Note that this is this the table where you will find SRS Exit_Actions for leave of absence: AL (Administrative Leave), FL (For Library) and LV (leave of absence). These exits are not stored in the degree pursual table.

FL is used for students who are on leave, but need to retain their access to the University Libraries.

SSN is not visable to most queries and users. Use PennID for identification of individuals in this table. Joins in the Business Objects universes are done on PennID, instead of SSN.
