Defines the method by which transfer credit is awarded by Penn."By title" means that credit has been awarded to the student, and there is no Penn course equivalent. "By equivalency" means that credit has been awarded to a student for a specific course at Penn.

Course_ID

RX305 COURSE NUMBER, PENN

appears on SRS screen 142, and also on the bottom of the student's transcript

The 7 byte identification number of the Penn course to which the outside transfer work is equivalent. Course_ID is a component of Section_ID in the ENROLLMENT_ALL_V Table. There will be a Course_ID when the Action is 'E', but for other actions, this column may be null.

Credit_Type
calculated Defines whether the credit awarded for transfer work is in course units, credits, or semester hours. Based on the credit type used by the student's primary division and degree associated with the career to which the equivalent credit was awarded.

Values:

CU - Course units
CR - Credits
SH - Semester hours
Degree calculated The degree to which this course equivalent has been associated, based on the career to which the equivalent credit was awarded. This course may count towards more than one degree.

Refer to the DEGREE table.

Division calculated The division in which the student is pursuing the degree to which the transferred credit is being awarded.

 

Values:

Refer to the DIVISION Table for values.

DP_LINK_ID calculated A system-generated internal index column, used to join the term records to the appropriate degree pursual. It is re-generated each time a student's records are refreshed from SRS, and the old value over-written. See also DP_LINK_ID in the DEGREE_PURSUAL_ALL_V, DEGREE_TERM_ALL_V, MAJOR_MINOR_TERM, ASSIGNMENT, and HIATUS tables.
Institution

AC710 SCHOOL CODE

The code for the school, college or university that offered the course taken by the student for which equivalent credit is being awarded. The college or university may also be Penn.

Where possible, the Institution_Code is based on the numeric Educational Testing Service (ETS) code. Penn assigns to some institutions leading zeros as codes which have no corresponding ETSvalue. For example, leading zeros have been assigned to the following ETS codes: 0220650 (Middlesex School), 0002098 (CornellUniversity), and 0101102 (Southwest Miami High School).

Some Institution Codes have special meanings. These include:

Penn_Id appears on SRS screen 103 The 8-digit identification number assigned to the student by the PENNcard system. No two persons have the same Penn_ID. Only persons affiliated with the University will be assigned a Penn_ID. Note: This data element is currently not used in the Student Records System.
Restrict_Previous_Institution From the information restriction flags that appear on SRS screen 11 Indicates whether a student has notified the University to restrict information about previous institutions he or she has attended from persons outside the University .

Values:

[Null] = The student has not notified the University to restrict
information about previous institutions attended.

Y = Yes, the student has notified the University to restrict
from outside the University information about previous institutions
he or she has attended.

Sequence_Number calculated Used as part of the unique key for the record, and is not needed for reporting purposes.
Ssn Part of the context line of all student screens in SRS The Social Security number of this student (restricted information).
Term

RX240 TERM TAKEN, TRF

The term in the student's degree pursual at Penn which the transfer credit is applied.

Note that this is stored differently than Term in other tables: the format is YYT, where YY is the last two digits of the calendar year, and T is the SRS term (A for Spring, B for Summer, C for Fall).

Caution: this may or may not accurately reflect when the student was given credit.

Ext_Course_Num

External Cource Number: The identification number of the course taken outside Penn. For Advanced Placement (Institution number 000001) the Ext Course Num will be the AP Exam number.

External Activity Type, also sometimes called Entry Type: The method by which equivalent credit was earned.

Values:

A - ADVANCED PLACEMENT
C - COURSE WORK
I - INTERNATIONAL
B - BLOCK CREDIT

External Grade: the grade received at the institution outside Penn. For Advanced Placement exams, the grade will be the test score.
