Career |
AA630 DEFAULT_CAREER
NATURAL ALIAS: CAREER-AA
Appears on SRS screen 110 |
The
career associated with this degree during this term. In SRS, the degree
programs at the term level are mapped to a record in the APS (Academic
Program Summary) to find the associated career.
A career may be
a portion, or it may be all, of a student's academic history at the
University
of Pennsylvania. Generally, a career corresponds to that portion of
a student's academic record that appears on a single transcript and is
associated
with the academic program in which the student is enrolled. A student
may pursue several careers at the University, and each career will
appear
on a separate transcript. For example, a student who has completed an
undergraduate career may then pursue a career in Law. See
also Restrict_Degree in the DEGREE_PURSUAL_ALL_V Table. |

Degree_Order |
derived from the positional indicators of the term
data elements in SRS.
on SRS screen 111, the degree order appears as text |
The number that indicates the order of the degree program.
It is used to distinguish two degrees, for those students who are pursuing
multiple degrees at the same time.
1 = Primary program
2 = Secondary program
0 = this is a place-holder in the warehouse. You will not find this value
in SRS. It is used in situations where a dual degree student has an
unresolved leave from a previous program, resulting in 3 overlapping programs.
The unresolved leave program will have a Degree Order of 0. (Note: a Degree
Order of zero usually indicates the student's data in the APS record in
SRS, as seen on screen 110, needs to be corrected.)

or
RT147 DEGREE, SEC.
NATURAL ALIAS: DEG-PRI-RT
or
DEG-SEC-RT
found on SRS screen 111 |
The degree pursued by this student during this term. A student may pursue
more than one degree during the same term. A degree is an academic title
pursued through a division or a school, and awarded by the University of
Pennsylvania.

is a pre-defined relationship between the two degrees the constitutes a
special joint degree program. A Sub-Matriculating student is pursuing two
degrees: one at the undergraduate

Penn_Id |
appears on SRS screen 103 |
The 8-digit identification number assigned to the student when their
record was created in the PennCommunity database. No two persons have
the same Penn_ID. Only persons affiliated with the University will be
assigned a Penn_ID.
Penn_ID is not stored in SRS, but can be used on screen 103 to look
up a student. It is populated in the Data Warehouse from a extract
from PennCommunity.
Note that because the SSN is still the record key in SRS, it is possible
for two records to accidentally get created in SRS with different SSNs,
for the same person. When this happens, there will be two different
records in the Data Warehouse with the same PennID. Please report all
PennID duplicates to either Data Administration, or the Office of the
University Registrar.

Ssn |
AA005 STUDENT ID
NATURAL ALIAS: SID-AA
the record key for all student data in SRS; appears
in the context line of all student-related screens |
For students who are United States citizens or permanent residents,
the Student ID number in SRS is generally the Social Security number
of this student. A Social Security number is a unique number assigned
to an individual by the federal Social Security Administration.
For foreign students and a few other exceptions, the value in this column
may be a Penn-assigned ssn.
Note: Never release a student's Social Security number to anyone
without the student's permission. Whenever possible, do not
include SSN in your query results, and if you must do so, you do so
with the full knowlege that you will be held responsibile for the careful
maintenance of any datafiles, reports or other stored data containing
SSNs.
Please see http://www.upenn.edu/privacy/ for more about the University's
policies and general cautions regarding the use of SSNs. |

Qualtiy_Credit
is calculated by using Registered_Credits, except for enrollments not
attempted towards grade point averages (GPA),in which case Quality_Credit
is 0.

In SRS, this field is the system-generated sum of the registered credits in the student term file. It includes credits for all courses regardless of which career the course is applied to. It also includes credits for courses that are applied to no career.
Registered_Credit is used to
compute academic statistics.

Terms are designated by the 4-digit calendar year, followed by a term
code. The Spring term code is A, the Summer term code is B, and the Fall
term code is C.

[Null] Not calculated
N Student has zero enrolled hours
F Full-time

Converted units
|
This is NOT in SRS, nor is it in the warehouse table. This is a calculated object used in the Business Objects universes. See "Course Units Converted" in the STDTCANQ universe folder "Degree Term" |
Not all schools at Penn report on registered credits using the same credit type. For example, the Law school uses semester hours, the Dental school uses credit hours, and most other schools use credit units. The converted units object in the Business Objects universe converts all credits – whether taken as CUs or SHs or CRs – into a single “currency”: If the term registered credits are of credit type SH (semester hours), this object will divide by 3.
If the term registered credits are of type CR (credit hours), this object will divide by 6. If the term registered credits are of type CU (course units), this object will report the CUs as-is.
