COMPONENT Table

Explanation

A component is a building block of a worksheet. Components contain the information about requirements for Division-wide rules, for major requirements or for minor requirements. The Component table contains the division, degree, major (or minor), concentration and catalog term for which the requirements are being defined.

For example: A component for Division = COL, Degree = BA will be associated with the division-wide requirements for the Bachelor of Arts in the College. A component for Division = COL, Degree = BA, Major = AMES, Concentration = CHI will be associated with the specific major requirements for a BA majoring in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies with a concentration in Chinese. On the Advisor InTouch worksheet, a student may choose which components to use in his or her worksheet, adding major and minor components as needed.

Common Uses

  • Finding all the components for being used by a specified division or department
  • Finding the contact email or help url defined for a collection of requirements

Cautions

  • While selecting Component records for those with an Active_Ind of "A" (Active) will return the Components that can be used in Worksheets, it is possible for "I" (Inactive) Components to also have associated Worksheet information. If a Component was ever made "A"(Active) and a worksheet was created using it, that Component cannot be deleted, it can only be made "I" (Inactive) so no additional Worksheets can use it. The existing Worksheets that used it remain in the database, even though the Component is no long active.
