CEN_STDT_STUDENT_TERM Table - Data Element Index

Acad_Pgms_In_Residence
Indicates the student's participation in an Academic Program in Residence (APR) during this term. Used to determine a student's eligibility for APR courses. For example: the student participated in the Hill House APR in 1993C.

Reserved for the Office of Academic Programs in Residence. Values:

[Null]    No APR (Academic Program in Residence) program
A         Arts house
B         Butcher-Speakman
C         Community house
D         DuBois house
E         East Asia house
H         Harnwell house
I         Hill house
K         Kings Court
L         Latin America house
M         Modern language

Academic_Status A description of this student's academic standing for this term as of the Census Date. Students in good standing are making satisfactory progress toward the degree. Examples of values are null (Good Standing) and ML (Mandatory Leave of Absence). The Census Date is one week after the close of the drop period for the term.

GS         Good standing
IN         Too many grades of I (Incomplete) or NR (No grade report)
ML         Mandatory leave of absence
OK         Reprieved from academic probation
PB         General probation
WR         Warning
Advisor_Signoff

Indicates whether a student has obtained an academic advisor's signature permitting a student to register for courses for this term. Some divisions require students to obtain an academic advisor's signature before registering for course sections. For example: Y (Yes), the student has obtained the advisor's signature.

Credit_Type

The unit of measurement (course units, semester hours, or credit units) for work completed by this student enrolled in this course section. For example: the unit of measurement for Law courses may be SH (Semester Hours).

Deans_List This data element is marked either N (Not on Dean's List; system-maintained) or NM (Not on Dean's List; user-maintained) for all students because Dean's List honors are not assigned as of the Census Date and therefore offers no reporting value. The Census Date is one week after the close of the drop period for the term.

Indicates whether this student is on the Dean's List for this term. This is an academic honor that is only awarded to undergraduate students once a year at the end of Spring term.

Desired_Load The amount of credit the University anticipates the student to take this term. The amount of credit is determined by the student's division and the student's status. For example: it is anticipated that this student will take 5 CU (Course Units) this term.
Directors_List This data element is usually null because these honors are not assigned as of the Census Date and therefore offers no reporting value. The Census Date is one week after the close of the drop period for the term.

Indicates whether this student is on the Director's List for this term. This is an academic honor that is only awarded to Wharton MBA students each term.

Dissertation_Masters
Indicates that the student is registered for either D (Dissertation) or M (Master's Thesis) course sections in this term. For example: null means the student is not registered for Dissertation or Master Thesis's course sections for this term.

D          Dissertation
M          Master's thesis
Gi_Certification_Type
From the Student Extract Tape as of the Census Date (defined as one week after the close of the drop period for the term). An indicator of enrollment status used for certifying and reporting full time / part time status to the Veterans Administration. Full time / part time status must be certified for students receiving Veterans Benefits. This field shows a finer level of detail than "Time-Status-Code" and "Time-Status-Override-Flag".

Honors_Program

From the Student Extract Tape as of the Census Date (defined as one week after the close of the drop period for the term). An indicator that identifies a student as an honors student for the term. Used in evaluating eligibility for honors sections of courses. This value is carried forward from term to term.

Penn_Id

 

The 8-digit identification number assigned to the student by the PENNcard system. No two persons have the same Penn_ID. Only persons affiliated with the University will be assigned a Penn_ID. Note: This element is not used in SRS.
Pre_Freshman_Status From the Student Extract Tape as of the Census Date (defined as one week after the close of the drop period for the term). An indicator of the status of a student in the Pre-Freshman Program. This value is carried forward from term to term.

Rotc

From the Student Extract Tape as of the Census Date (defined as one week after the close of the drop period for the term). An indicator of student participation in Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC), either Army or Navy.

Special_Tuition_Rate

From the Student Extract Tape as of the Census Date (defined as one week after the close of the drop period for the term). A code used to override the normal tuition calculation.

Values:

[Null] - Normal calc
PT - Part-Time Student is enrolled in a full-tuition school but is to be charged by the course rather than the full flat rate. *
NC - No charge Student is not liable for Penn Tuition or General Fee; Tuition calc will bypass this student.**NOTE: This value is no longer used.

*FO General Fee Only Med School Only; Student is to be charged the General Fee only. **NOTE: This value is no longer used.

Ssn
From the Student Extract Tape as of the Census Date (defined as one week after the close of the drop period for the term). The student's Social Security number; currently used by Penn as the student's identification number. A Social Security number is a unique number assigned to an individual by the federal Social Security Administration. This is a 9-digit numeric character without dashes, for example, 777777777. For foreign students and students who have requested not to use their Social Security number, this number is assigned by Penn.
Term_Earned_Credit The credit the student earns for courses applied to any career in a given term. Credits for courses not applying to any career are not included in this sum. The total can be no higher than the TERM_REGISTERED_CREDIT. A credit is earned when a student receives passing grade for a course. A passing grade discludes failures (F), withdrawals (W) and all incompletes (I).

NOTE: This field is always null in the STDTTERM tables.

Term_Gpa Grade Point Average for this student in the term indicated. It may range from 0-4.0 and is calculated by dividing TERM_GRADE_POINTS by the TERM_QUALITY_CREDIT attempted. (The grade point is the sum of the numeric values assigned to each letter grade included in the grade point average.) This field only calculates this average using grades from the current term s data.

Term_Grade_Points The sum of the SCE grade point values for the given term, but only includes credit for courses applying to any career and excludes credit for courses not applying to any career.

Term_Quality_Credit This number is the denominator used in the calculation of the grade point average and is the earned credits included in the grade point average. If a student passes a course taken pass/fail, earned credits increase, but quality credits remain the same. If a student fails a course taken pass/fail, earned credits remain the same, but quality credits increase.

Term_Registered_Credit

Total credits for all courses in which a student is enrolled for the indicated term. Registered credits are used to compute academic statistics. Depending on the grade type carried by the course, registered credits will or will not count toward TERM_EARNED_CREDIT (credits applying towards a student s degree program), TERM_QUALITY_CREDIT (credits used to calculate a grade point average), credits used to calculate a student's full-/part- time status, or credits used to calculate a student's load limit for a term. This field is generated by the system by calculating the sum of SCE-Registered Credit and includes credits for all courses, regardless of which career the course is applied to, even if the credits apply to no career. NOTE: All fields in CEN_STDT_STUDENT_TERM are static in that they are updated by term and there is only record per student per term.

Term

From the Student Extract Tape as of the Census Date (defined as one week after the close of the drop period for the term). The Academic term (also known as semester) defines a period of time during which courses are offered.

Time_Status For an indicated term, this field indicates whether the student is enrolled full- or part-time. A part-time status usually indicates three (3) or less credits per term (there are exceptions). This status can change by term and has a direct bearing on the tuition and benefits of a student. The time status can also be overriden by the student's division office. NOTE: All fields in CEN_STDT_STUDENT_TERM are static in that they are updated by term and there is only record per student per term.

P          Part-time

Transcript_Honors1

Special honors awarded to students during their career. These honors may only be applied once and the description is appended to their transcript. NOTE: All fields in CEN_STDT_STUDENT_TERM are static in that they are updated by term and there is only record per student per term.

Transcript_Honors2

Dissertation_Term_Count The number of terms a student has been in PHD Dissertation status, up to and including this term, excluding terms in which they were on dissertation-Study Abroad.
Tot_Dissertation_Term_Count The number of terms a student has been in PHD dissertation status up to and including this term, including dissertation-Study Abroad.
College_House_Code

The code for the dorm or housing group to which the student was assigned. Note: this is not necessarily where the student lives; College House communities are comprised of students who live in those dorms and/or who are assigned to be a part of the community in those dorms, whether they live there or not.

Values are in the dwadmin.college_house table

PhD_Term_Count

Indicates the number of terms a student has been active as a PhD student; used in the tuition calc program. PhD students are billed full tuition for 10 terms, followed by reduced tuition for up to 10 terms.

Populated in the Census tables beginning with Spring 2012.

The counter is incremented by 1 each time a new term record is created, excluding summer, if the primary degree is PHD.

Joint Degree Code

Code for the type of coordinated multiple degree program.
