Classification_Credit |
Total number of Registered_Credits for ungraded courses, Earned_Credits
and Transfer_Credits for all prior terms for this academic program. The
data for this data element is generated by the system (SRS), and is used
in the calculation of classification for undergraduates. For example: a
student may have 18.0 Registered_Credits.
See also Classification in the CEN_STDT_ACADEMIC_PROGRAM Table.
|
Classification |
The student's classification in this program; for example, FR means Freshman.
For undergraduates, classification is system-maintained, based on accumulation
of earned credit; for graduate and professional students, it is maintained
by the student's division.

|
Cohort_Group |
The Cohort flag provides a way (in addition to classification) for divisions
to group students within an academic program.
Note that there is no standard definition for the use of any cohort
value: the schools and divisions use this data element internally, and
each has their own definition of what it means to them.
- Values:

|
Degree_Awarded |
The degree awarded by the University of Pennsylvania. A degree is an
academic title pursued through a division of a school, and awarded by
the University of Pennsylvania. It is possible for the degree awarded
to be one other than the degree pursued. For example: a student pursuing
a PHD may be awarded an AM and then possibly continue pursuit of the PHD.
Values:
Refer to the DEGREE table.
|
Degree_Expected_Term |
The term in which the division or department responsible for this student
expects this student to receive this degree. If the student is no longer
expected to receive the degree, this value may no longer be accurate. For
example: a department expects this student to receive this degree in 2001A
(Spring 2001).
See also Exit_Action in the CEN_STDT_ACADEMIC_PROGRAM Table.
|
Degree_Level |
The academic level of this degree.
Values:
U Undergraduate
M Masters Level

P Professional
|
Degree |
The degree pursued by this student during this term. A student may pursue
more than one degree during the same term. A degree is an academic title
pursued through a division or a school, and awarded by the University
of Pennsylvania. For example: BA (Bachelor of Arts).
Values:
Refer to the DEGREE table.
|
Division |
Identifies the particular division associated with this student's academic
program. A division is an administrative sub-unit of a school. Schools at
Penn can be composed of one or more divisions. A division oversees students
as they pursue degrees within that division.
Examples of Division code include COL (College of Arts and Sciences),
NUR (Nursing Undergraduate), GFP (Fine Arts Graduate) and GEX (Engineering
and Applied Science Executive).
Values:
Refer to the DIVISION table.
|
Dual_Degree_Type |
For students pursuing two degrees, this indicates the relationship between
the primary and secondary degrees. A Dual Degree student is pursuing two
degrees: both at either the undergraduate level or the non-undergraduate
level. A Sub-Matric student is pursuing two degrees: one at the undergraduate
level and one at the non-undergraduate level. For example: a Dual Degree
student can pursue a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the Engineering
School and a Bachelor of Science from the Wharton School.
Values:
[Null] Only pursuing one degree
D Dual Degree
J Joint Degree

at Penn. |
Exit_Action_Date |
The date of the Exit_Action that concludes this academic program for this
student. Note that because the Census snapshot is taken in the middle of the term, most exit information will be preliminary, and may not reflect the actual exits for that term. |
Exit_Action_Reason |
The reason for the Exit_Action that terminated this academic program. Note that because the Census snapshot is taken in the middle of the term, most exit information will be preliminary, and may not reflect the actual exits for that term.

Exit_Action |
How a student concludes this academic program. For example: EG (Expected
Graduation) or GD (Graduation). This data element is null until the degree
pursual is completed unless the student is on leave (for example, AL). Note
that student leaves do not necessarily end an academic program. Also, because the Census snapshot is taken in the middle of the term, most exit information will be preliminary. This use
of Exit_Action differs from the use of Exit_Action in the DEGREE_PURSUAL_ALL_V
Table.
See also Exit_Action in the DEGREE_PURSUAL_ALL_V Table.
See also the LEAVE Table.

|
Exit_Term |
The last term the student is eligible to register for courses for this
academic program. If the student graduates, Exit_Term is set by the system
(SRS) to the student's enrolled term. For example: 2000A (Spring 2000).
Note that because the Census snapshot is taken in the middle of the term, most exit information will be preliminary, and may not reflect the actual exits for that term. |
Final_Action |
If an exit action is entered while a student is on leave of absence, it will appear here. Note that because the Census snapshot is taken in the middle of the term, most exit information will be preliminary, and may not reflect the actual exits for that term. |
Final_Action_date |
The date of the Final Action, if any. Note that because the Census snapshot is taken in the middle of the term, most exit information will be preliminary, and may not reflect the actual exits for that term. |
Expected_Return_Term |
The term that the student is expected to return to this academic program,
if appropriate. For example: the student may have taken a leave of absence,
and be planning to return in a future term, 2000C (Fall 2000). |
Graduation_Checkout_Status
|
Indicates a student's progress through graduation checkout for this academic
program. For example: 3 (the student has paid the diploma fee and has applied
for graduation).

|
The school that administers the academic program. An academic program
is a specific combination of division, degree sought, and major.
Values:
Refer to the SCHOOL table.
|
Special_Program |
Further specifies academic programs that cannot be defined
solely by the combination of division, degree, major and concentration.
Values beginning with "A" refer to penn students on study
abroad programs at other institutions and, if used, will keep the students
from
being billed.
Values beginning with "B" refer to penn students on Office
of International Programs study abroad programs at other institutions
and, if used, will bill the student based on tables in the student financial
services system.
Values beginning with "C" refer to CGS non-degree programs.
Values beginning with "E" refer to School of Education divisions.
Values beginning with "F" refer to foreign students from
other institutions on study abroad programs at penn. By using this code
the
students will not be billed, will appear on the CER/RCR report under
the non-billable column, and will not be included in the tuition distribution
process. They will continue to be included in the headcount enrollment
reports, degree and course enrollment reports.
Values beginning with "L" refer to Law School/Wharton gradraduate
certitification programs.
Values beginning with "T" refer to special program codes
that need to have exceptions made for them in the tuition calc program.

Values beginning with "X" refer to the Bryn Mawr, Swarthmore
and Haverford consortium programs and will be used only for students
who
have spent an entire semester at one of these schools.
For a list of Values, decode descriptions, and the "active/inactive"flag for Special Programs:
see the SPECIAL_PROGRAM table. |
-
- Ssn
|
The student's Social Security number; currently used by Penn as the student's
identification number. A Social Security number is a unique number assigned
to an individual by the federal Social Security Administration. This is
a 9-digit numeric character without dashes, for example, 777777777. For
foreign students and students who have requested not to use their Social
Security number, this number is assigned by Penn. |
Term |
The term, as of the Census Date, for which these data are valid. Penn divides
the academic year into 3 terms: Fall, Spring, and Summer. Terms are designated
by the 4-digit calendar year, followed by a term code. The Spring term code
is C, the Summer term code is B, and the Fall term code is C. For example:
the information is valid for 1995C (the 1995 Fall term).
|
Term_entry_action |
For students starting a program in this term, this will be that same as Entry_Action. For continuing student, the value in this field will be CO (Continuing). |
