V_COHORT table

Explanation

This is a validation table, containing the values and descriptions for student cohorts. Cohorts provide a way to group students into categories. While it is possible for a students' cohorts to change from one term to the next, that is the exception rather than the norm. Students usually remain in their cohorts throughout their academic program(s).

Some examples of Cohort codes: ZMDC_HUNTS - Dual Degree Hunts Intnl & Bus, ADM_CL2021 - Class of 2021, NBSNMSN - Nursing BSN/MSN Student.

The warehouse V_COHORT table is refreshed in batch mode from the Operational Data Store (ODS), which gets its data from the Banner database. The UPENN_ODS source table is SATURN_STVCHRT.

Cautions and notes

• Cohorts do not typically change often. For categorizations of students that DO frequently change from term-to-term, see the attributes in ST_ATTRIBUTE, validation table V_STDT_ATTR.
• Students can have multiple Cohorts at any given time. The relationship from both the STUDENT and ST_TERM tables to the ST_COHORT table is one-to-many.
• The Cohort value of 'NOCOHORT' is used when students are no longer in any cohorts.
