V_CLASS table

Explanation

This is a validation table, containing the values and descriptions for student classifications. Examples of valid values: FR - Freshman, SO - Sophomore, L3 - Law 3rd Year, M6 - MD 6th Year, etc.

The warehouse V_CLASS table is refreshed in batch mode from the Operational Data Store (ODS), which gets its data from the Banner database. The UPENN_ODS source table is SATURN_STVCLAS.

Cautions and notes

• Classification is system-calculated in Banner, and includes external transfer credit and AP credit awarded to the student, along with coursework completed at Penn. To see the student's "Penn Classification" of their class standing based on only courses taken at Penn, see the ST_ATTRIBUTE table, and validation codes in V_STDNT_ATTR.
