This is a validation table, containing the values and descriptions for Classification of Instructional Programs codes used by the National Center for Education Statistics. See https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cipcode/

The warehouse V_CIPC table is refreshed in batch mode from the Operational Data Store (ODS), which gets its data from the Banner database. The UPENN_ODS source table is SATURN_STVCIPC.

Cautions and notes

• CIP codes are regularly updated -- usually every ten years, but potentially more often, by the NCES. Any use of this table should include a filter on the max of the CIPC_PUB_YEAR to get the most recent value.
• In the legacy Data Warehouse tables, the CIPC codes were found in the MAJOR table for the current year, and in the MAJOR_HIST table for older CIPC codes.
