STUDENT DEGREE OUTCOME MAJOR table

Explanation

Contains all of the majors, concentrations, and minors associated with degree outcome records. Joins from this table to the ST_DEGREE_OUTCOME table should be on the student id and the DWLD_CURRIC_ID.

The warehouse ST_DEGREE_OUTCOME table is refreshed in batch mode from the Operational Data Store (ODS), which gets its data from the Banner database. Because the source table for degrees granted (SATURN_SHRDGMR) contains only the primary major, the ST_DEG_OUTCOME_MAJOR table is sourced from the tables that contain all of the relevant degree/major/minor information related to the degree outcome record: SATURN_SORLCUR and SATURN_SORLFOS. In the online Pennant system, the data about the majors awarded with the degree can be found on the SHADEGR form.

Common Uses

• Identify the graduation stuatus of students who are expecting to graduate in a specified term and include all of the majors they will be awarded.
• Find students who have graduated with a specific major.

Cautions and notes

• The ST_DEG_OUTCOME_MAJOR table does not contain any information about degrees a student received at any other college or university besides Penn.
• Students working in curricula that do not result in the granting of a credential will not have the majors related to that work recorded in ST_DEG_OUTCOME_MAJOR. Such "non-degree" programs can only be found in ST_MAJOR_MINOR, and usually simply end with an exit action of 'E' (end of program) in ST_DEGREE_PURSUAL.
• Once a student graduates, if there are no other active curricula for the student, their Student Status will be set to 'IG' (inactive graduated). However, if they graduate from one program and immediately continue on with another, their Student Status remains 'AS' (active student). See ST_TERM.
