ST_ADVISOR table

(dwngss_ps.st_advisor)

Explanation

Contains information about advisors who are assigned to students. Advisor information can change from term-to-term, and a student can have multiple advisors in any given term. Advisors are associated with a term, but not with a curriculum (see Cautions and notes below).

Source

The warehouse ST_ADVISOR table is refreshed in batch mode from the Operational Data Store (ODS), which gets its data from the Banner database. The ODS source tables are UPENN_ODS.SATURN_SGRADVR and, to get the advisor's Penn_ID, SATURN_SPRIDEN. In the online Pennant system, the data about students' advisors can be viewed on the SGAADVR form.

Common Uses

  • Identify a students' advisors.
  • Find students assigned to a specific advisor.

Cautions and notes

  • It is difficult to associate an advisor to a specific curriculum. A student in a dual-degree program may have two academic advisors, but the ST_ADVISOR table will not indicate which advisor goes with which program. A student with multiple majors may have multiple major advisors, but the ST_ADVISOR table will not indicate which advisor goes with which major.
  • There are now more advisor types than were available in the legacy SRS system. Valid values for advisor type can be found in DWNGSS.V_ADVISOR_TYPE table.
  • In the Pennant Student Records universe, advisor information from the Human Capital Management (HCM) system, including the advisor's name and email address, is found in the subfolder called "Advisor HCM View."
