Course Equivalent table

(dwngss_ps.crse_equiv)

Explanation

The CRSE_EQUIV table contains courses that are equivalent to each other. This includes courses that used the legacy 3-digit course numbers as well as courses with Banner course numbering. Equivalencies are usually in pairs: if course A is equivalent to course B, there will be another row indicating course B is equivalen to course A. See Cautions and Notes below.

Source

The warehouse CRSE_EQUIV table is refreshed in batch mode from the Operational Data Store (ODS), which gets its data from the Banner database. The UPENN_ODS source tables are SATURN_SCBCRSE and SATURN_SCREQIV. In the online Pennant system, the crosslist family number and primary/secondary indicator can be viewed on the SCADETL form, on the Corequisites and Equivalents tab.

Common Uses

  • Finding courses that must be taken concurrently.

Cautions and notes

  • A course can be set up with no equivalencies.
  • A course can have an unlimited number of equivalencies.
  • When an equivalency is established, the reciprocal equivalency is also in effect. For example, if course A is equivalent to course B, then course B is also equivalent to course A.
  • The course equivalencies are not the best way to look for Also Offered As courses. See instead the COURSE_XLIST table.
