Allowable Grades table

(dwngss_ps.allowable_grades)

Explanation

Contains an array of grades that are allowed, per the grading rules, and can be used to grade students in courses. There is one row per term, per grading level (student's level), per grade mode.

Source

The warehouse ALLOWABLE_GRADES table is refreshed in batch mode from the Operational Data Store (ODS), which gets its data from the Banner database. The UPENN_ODS source table is SATURN_SHRGRDO.

Common Uses

  • Providing instructors with the grades they may use, when grading students in their courses.

Cautions and notes

  • Students can apply a course to more than one level, but only after the course has been graded and moved to Academic History. For this reason, the join from ST_ENROLLMENT to ALLOWABLE_GRADES should be on term, grade_mode, and the student's primary level.
  • Some Grade_Codes_Allowable contain extraneous text strings, such as the '%_MBA%' used for some Wharton Graduate course. The field Grade_Codes_for_Display removes the non-standard text strings.
