CM_FOUNDATIONAPPROACH Table

dwcat_cm.cm_foundationapproach

Explanation

Lookup table for the codes that identify Foundational Approach types. Contains one row per code that may be part of the approval process for curriculum management proposals. Foundational Approaches are used in the School of Arts and Sciences to identify key learning goals in the curriculum. If a course is assigned to a Foundational Approach, successful completion of that course would mean the student met the related degree requirement associated with that Foundational Approach.

Common Uses

  • Use a Foundational Approach type code to get the full Foundational Approach type name.

Cautions

  • Foundational Approaches are course attributes used by the School of Arts and Sciences.
  • This is the short code for the generic Foundational Approach, associated with the FND_APR_CODE in CM_FND_APR_CURRENT_PROPOSAL. There exists a longer code, CL_COURSE_FND_APR that contains both the Course ID and the Foundational Approach type code; the values found in this table are a substring of that code. For example, 'HIST 078 C1' contains the CL Course ID, 'HIST 078' concatenated with the Foundational Approach type code, 'C1'.
  • Foundational Approaches, like Sectors, are managed in CM in relation to a Course. A proposal involves the approval of associating an existing Foundational Approach type to a course. The introduction and approval of new Foundational Approach type codes is outside of Curriculum Management.
