GA_GRE_SCORES Table - Data Element Index

 

Data element Definition

Applicant_ID

An identifying number, assigned by the Graduate Admissions system, to each applicant. This column cannot be null.

Applicant ID is part of the unique key for the ga_gre_scores, along Record Source, Rec Type and Rec Number.

Analytical This GRE test is no longer in use. Some historical records in the Graduate Admissions data collection contain scores for this test, on a 0-100 scale.
Analytical_Perc This GRE test is no longer in use.
Date_Received_at_Penn The date the test scores were received at the University of Pennsylvania.
Quant

The score reported for the applicant's performance on the GRE Quantitative Reasoning test, stored as a number.

For people who took this test prior to August 1, 2011, the scores reported will be in the range between 200 – 800, in 10-point increments.

For people who took this test on or after August 1, 2011, the scores reported will be in the range between 130 – 170, in 1 point increments.

Even though at any given point in time there may be some applicants who do not have GRE test information, if there is a row for an applicant in this table, the Verbal score will not be null. A missing test score will appear as zero.

Quant_Perc The percentile ranking that corresponds to the score received on the GRE Quantitative Reaasoning test. See Quant column. For additional information, please see http://www.ets.org/gre/institutions/scores/interpret/
Rec_Number Part of unique key, Rec Number counts the number of unique tests within a distinct category. It is not used for ranking or precedence. Values are 1 through 9.
Rec_Type Record Type is the category of the scores:

Reported= Self reported scores
Official = Scores downloaded from Educational Testing Services or entered by the Admissions Officer
Latest = The last score set as determined by the test date and test type. If Official scores exist, the Latest will be the last score of the Official scores, based on test date, else Latest will be the last score of the Reported scores.
Record_Source

The code for the admission system that is the source of this record.

Values:

AY - Apply Yourself
ASP - Annenberg PhD admissions
BMP - Biomedical PhD program admissions (historical data only - BMP programs now use AY)
CGS - Liberal and Professional Studies (historical data only - CGS programs now use AY)
DEN - School of Dental Medicine
EDC - Gradudate Education certificate programs (historical data only - EDC programs now use AY)
ENG - Graduate School of Engineering (historical data only - ENG programs now use AY)
GAS - Graduate Arts and Sciences (historical data only - GAS programs now use AY)
GSE - Graduate School of Eduction masters and PhD programs (historical data only - GSE now uses AY)
LAW - Law School JD programs
LLM - Law School Master of Laws
LWT - Law School transfer applicants
MDM - School of Medicine
MED - School of Medicine MD programs
NU - School of Nursing (historical data only - Nursing now uses AY)
SPP - School of Social and Public Policy (historical data only - SPP now uses AY)
VM - School of Veterinary Medicine
WH - Wharton School MBA and PHD programs (historical data only - WH now uses AY)

Test_Date Test Date in Text format as provided by ETS or Applicant.
Test_Date_as_Date Test Date as Date - test date converted to actual date
Verbal

The score reported for the applicant's performance on the GRE Verbal Reasoning test, stored as a number.

For people who took this test prior to August 1, 2011, the scores reported will be in the range between 200 – 800, in 10-point increments.

For people who took this test on or after August 1, 2011, the scores reported will be in the range between 130 – 170, in 1 point increments.

Writing The score reported for the applicant's performance on the GRE Analytical Writing test, stored as a number. Although the GRE Analytical Writing measure contains two discrete analytical writing tasks, a single combined score is reported because it is more reliable than a score for either task alone. The reported score ranges from 0 to 6. May be null.
