At Penn, we generally use the Applet (Java) report panel to create or edit queries in Web Intelligence, but this does require the browser to be enabled to run Java, which may be problematic for other reasons. If you're unable to use Java, you can use HTML mode instead.
- The HTML mode of Web Intelligence offers a lot of flexibility for viewing and modifying your reports using filters, variables, adding new tabs, etc.
- If you can't run Java, you can set your preferences to use HTML mode by doing the following:
- Log into BI Launch pad.
- Click on the link for Preferences at the top right.
- Select Preferences > Web Intelligence.
- Click HTML in the View and Modify sections of the right-hand pane.
- Click Save and Close at the bottom right of the screen.
Using HTML mode you can view and modify reports as you would with the Applet (Java) report panel, with the following exceptions:
- Document "Save As..." destinations are limited to My Favorites and Public Folders.
- Document "Save As..." file types are limited to the "Web Intelligence" file type (although data may be exported to your local computer in other file formats via the Export icon on the File tab)
